OK – this story is apparently like a year old… but it’s new to me! For the first time since 1968, the Royal Mint chose new designs for the backside of the Britain’s coins. The winning design (chosen from 4,000) was from Matt Dent – a graphic designer from Bangor in Wales. The new coins are slowly being introduced and replacing the old ones. Now THAT is a lasting achievement! (Just checked my wallet and discovered one of the new 20p pieces – who knew?)
See them in detail here.

These ARE nice looking coins! I like how the designs on the lower denominators come together to form a shield, very unique and clever. They’ve given the coins a modern look!
