A chair created JUST for throwing your clothes on it. Fantastic. (Thanks Jason!)

Colour in Sweden

I just stumbled on this wildly imaginative residence from Swedish architecture duo, Tham & Videgård Hansson in the new issue of Monocle. In an effort to link the various large rooms in this 10-room, 19th century Stockholm apartment together, they decided to use 7,000 oversized wooden floorboards stained different colours (see the floorplan below). To contrast [...]
A bit more green from Retrouvius

Without planning to, I’ve been on a bit of a green kick this week. I’m off tomorrow, but thought I’d share one more green post before the weekend (back on top form on Monday!). I’m totally taken with this felt armchair from Retrouvius. It’s a nice classic shape, but the green felt is an unexpected [...]

Thought I’d share some these art pieces from designer Roy McMakin. It’s impressive how he manages to bridge the gap between art, architecture and design. And I’m really feeling all this green! Images via Matthew Marks Gallery.
Roy McMakin for Steven Jensen

I really admire the bold statement of this surreal house that Roy McMakin of Domestic Architecture designed for Steven Jensen. Settled on Vashon Island in Washington State the inspiration was Dorothy’s house from the Wizard of Oz… after the tornado. I’m a sucker for concrete and wood, but these two really went for it! I [...]
Sander Mulder Design

Just came across some really innovative product design from Dutchman Sander Mulder. A few of my favourites include a woofer in the shape of a headless dog (naturally), storage units conceived as shipping containers, candelabras constructed from industrial piping and a massive, 54-faceted, aluminium emerald pendant. What more could you possibly want? Check out more [...]
Mystery Solved – Unité d’Habitation, Marseille
Posted in Architecture, Inspirational, Interiors, tagged Le Corbusier on April 15, 2009 | 3 Comments »
Gabo at Atelier tipped me off about that mystery image from yesterday. (Thanks!) It’s actually an apartment in Le Corbusier‘s Unité d’Habitation or Cité Radieuse (The Radiant City) in Marseille. This was his attempt to “show the way ahead” and display his utopian vision for communal living in post-war France. Comprising 337 apartments, the ‘vertical village’ [...]

There’s a whole ballpoint pen / biro revolution going on at the moment. In particular I am really feeling these drawings by Aussie artist, Laith McGregor. The detail in these is really astounding… This must be fantastic publicity for Bic! Via Running Amok.
