Wow – these large, hand-blown glass vases from BarberOsgerby for Venini are truly beautiful. Apparently, they’re inspired by the lanterns on the boats in the Venetian Lagoon – which the designers spotted on a trip to visit Venini’s workshop on Murano. It’s difficult to get a sense of scale here – but the last shot [...]

Kangaroo Apron

I saw this Kangaroo Apron at 100% Design – it is so simple yet so smart. It’s an apron with pockets (for spoons, spatulas, etc.), but also has built in oven-mitts (or depending on where you live ‘oven-gloves’ or just ‘mittens’). Considering I always burn my hands getting stuff out of the oven this would [...]

This is a great project by the Commando Group – they invite photographers to submit images which they then ‘remix’. In this particular case they created a yeti type monster from images by photographer, Damian Heinisch. I love the waterfall of tears! What a lonely creature.

I love these prototypes by Stephen Bretland for design collective, TEN XYZ. A salad bowl that doubles as a pot of pencils (pencils not included), salad ‘tools’ (get it?!) and a cheeseboard shaped like a cracker. Very clever man.

With the cold air descending, I thought I’d share some of my picks to get us all settled in for the fall. A thick scarf, woollen socks, a wall clock (clocks go back in a few weeks!), a tea cosy, and even a chair (get back to work, summer’s over!) – it’s all here. I’ve [...]
The New English

I came across these really nice ceramics from the design collective, The New English at 100% Design. I particularly like the Anatomica set (by Lisa Turner) and Inkhead set (by Florian Hutter). Inkhead is inspired by the art of tattoos. Excellent – and beautiful, no?

For the record – I really love Dan Tobin Smith‘s cover shot for Jay-Z‘s new album. Mr. Tobin Smith is seemingly getting better by the minute!
