Lanterne Marine

Wow – these large, hand-blown glass vases from BarberOsgerby for Venini are truly beautiful.  Apparently, they’re inspired by the lanterns on the boats in the Venetian Lagoon – which the designers spotted on a trip to visit Venini’s workshop on Murano.

It’s difficult to get a sense of scale here – but the last shot gives a better sense of their size.  These are proper centrepieces!

Tomas Kral’s ‘Upgrade’

I’ve only recently come across Tomas Kral’s ‘Upgrade’ series – where he’s applied traditional decorative techniques for crystal (like engraving and gilding) to ‘upgrade’ old, industrial glass pieces (like milk bottles and jars.)

The results are fantastic – and the idea is perfectly simple and straightforward.  I bet it won’t be long before we see a lot of similar stuff on the high street.  (Imitation as flattery and all that!)
